چکیده

In this paper, we propose a new approximate approach for analyzing queuing models of single stage kanban systems. The approach is based on parametric decomposition technique and two moment approximations. The main building block of our approach is a new two-moment approximation characterizing the performance of fork/join stations fed by general inputs. Using this approximation we develop analytical methods to estimate different measures of kanban system performance such as throughput and work in process.

Two Moment Approximations for Fork/Join Stations with Applications to Modeling Kanban Systems

In queuing models of kanban systems, fork/join stations are used to model the synchronization constraints between parts and kanbans. Efficient analysis of these fork/join stations is quite crucial to analytical performance evaluation of kanban systems. Exact analysis of the fork/join station can be difficult especially if the input processes have general characteristics. We propose a new method...

A new analytical evaluation model for kanban controlled systems with fork/join synchronization stations

The kanban control systems are common in many manufacturing systems and are considered as superior to the push type systems. One characteristic of pull production systems is that there is a fixed population in the system so that they can be modeled as closed queueing networks. Also, pull production systems can be modeled with fork/join synchronization stations where supplies and demands are mat...

A New Approach for Analyzing Queuing Models of Material Control Strategies in Manufacturing Systems

This paper discusses a new approach for analyzing queuing models of material control strategies such as kanban, CONWIP and POLCA in manufacturing systems. In practice, these strategies regulate the flow of jobs at various stations of the manufacturing system using a combination of card loops and authorization signals. Queuing models of such systems are composed of closed queuing networks corres...

An Analytical Throughput Approximation for Closed Fork/Join Networks

Queueing networks featuring fork/join stations are natural models for a variety of computer and manufacturing systems, including parallel computer networks, fabrication/assembly systems, supply chains and material control strategies. Unfortunately, an exact solution for a Markovian fork/join network can only be obtained by analyzing the underlying Markov chain using numerical methods and these ...
